Otom, 21, showed promise in the 8-woman final as she clocked in 45.78 seconds which was faster than her heat time of 46.85sec.

China’s Lu Dong timed 38.17sec – a new world record – to clinch the gold.

Dong’s compatriot Shenggao He (38.98) captured the silver while Turkey’s Sevilay Ozturk (43.70) snared the bronze medal.

Before barging into the final stage, the armless wonder of Olongapo City finished third in heat and fifth overall.

The UP standout also came short in 50m backstroke-S5 where she finished sixth place with a time of 44 seconds.

Otom's loss continued the medal drought for the Philippines, with the last one coming from the 2016 Rio edition where late para table tennis great Josephine Medina clinched bronze medal in single class 8 category.

Yet to compete for the Nationals is para javelin thrower Cendy Asusano who will vie in the women’s javelin throw-F54 late Saturday.
