“Your effort, your compassion, go beyond hospitals. Your dedication is an inspiration,” Herbosa said minutes before the synchronized operations took place.

“These surgical procedures entail a lot of cost but because of the dedication of our doctors, everything is for free,” Villaflor said, even as he urged non-government organizations to make life-changing and life-saving surgeries their corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Villaflor said it is the aim of the PCS and its affiliates is to address the unmet surgeries in the underserved regions and ideally reach as much patients in the more than 7,000 islands of the country.

Dr. Ramon Inso, former PCS president, called the surgical outreach a “monumental event” of “surgical bayanihan.” “We have just provided life-changing surgeries to indigent patients who really needed interventions.”

The PCS experts performed medium to major surgeries including hernia to hemorrhoids procedures, thyroidectomy, modified radical mastectomy, colostomy closure, trans oral endoscopic thyroidectomy, posterior sagital anorectoplasty for imperforate anus, cholecystectomy, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, low anterior resection, and Whipple procedure, among many others.

The 3rd National Surgical Outreach kicked off the 88th year of the founding of the PCS.
