Capiz steps up fight vs dengue


ILOILO CITY – The Capiz provincial government has launched an intensified campaign against the dengue outbreak.

Gov. Fredenil “Oto” Castro opened the campaign through various activities in the two districts of the province.

Castro urged the people of Capiz to help fight dengue by by becoming a “lamok” or mosquito buster. “Lamok lang na!  (It’s only a mosquito),” said Castro.

He was accompanied in launching the campaign by Vice Gov. James “Mitang” Magbanua, Board Member Thea Faith Reyes, Board Member Elmer Arevalo, Deputy Administrator for the First District Enrique Martin, and department heads.

The Capiz Provincial Health Office recorded 2,370 dengue cases from January 1 to August 31.  

Dr. Alex Nolasco, provincial health chief, said that five persons have succumbed to dengue in the first eight months of the year.
