The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, Sept. 5 said a large part of Luzon, which has been affected by heavy rainfall from Typhoon “Yagi” (formerly “Enteng”) and the southwest monsoon (habagat), may experience improved weather by Friday, Sept. 6.
PAGASA Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said rainfall will decrease across most of Luzon on Friday, with only occasional heavy rains expected in Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro.
Estareja added that as early as Thursday night, rainfall will significantly decrease in other areas, and on Friday, only scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Metro Manila, Laguna, Rizal, Quezon, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Central Luzon, and northern Palawan.
On Saturday, Sept. 7, scattered rains and thunderstorms may prevail over Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, and Batangas.
By Sunday, Sept. 8, weather conditions are expected to have significantly improved across Luzon.
Estareja said that while the country can expect more sunny weather and fewer instances of continuous rain, isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms may still occur.
He added that between Saturday and Sunday, a low pressure area may form east of northern Luzon, which has the potential to develop into a tropical cyclone and could “slightly” enhance the habagat.
