The mayor ordered the cancellation of classes also because of the consistently rising water levels in the Marikina River, which may increase further and potentially lead to evacuations.

According to Marikina City Rescue 161, the river's water level is currently normal at 14.7 meters as of 7 p.m.

A first alarm will be raised if the water level reaches 15 meters, and a second alarm will be issued if it reaches 16 meters.

If the river triggers a second alarm, residents in low-lying areas, especially those near the river, will be asked to voluntarily evacuate to their barangays' designated evacuation sites.

Once the river's water level reaches 18 meters, the third and final alarm will be issued, and the local government will enforce mandatory evacuations in all affected areas.

“Sa mga panahong ito, hangad ko na kayo ay manatiling ligtas at ang bawat sandali ay gawin sanang makabuluhan kasama ang inyong pamilya (In these times, I hope that everyone will remain safe and make every moment with your family meaningful),” Teodoro said.
