Have you heard of this prestigious prize in search of "game-changing innovations that will help us repair our planet" founded by Prince William?
Nearing its fourth annual awards ceremony this November in Cape Town, South Africa, The Earthshot Prize intends to discover 50 winners within 10 years to solve the world’s most pressing environmental issues. It is inspired by “President John F. Kennedy’s Moonshot, which united millions of people around the goal of reaching the moon.”
It has five challenges or “Earthshots,” namely: Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World, and Fix Our Climate, which all aim to “repair the planet before irreversible damage occurs” by 2030. About 400 nominees for this year's prize are based in Africa.

Five winners will each receive a £1 million grant, roughly ₱71 million, to bring their environmental innovations to life, while 15 finalists will benefit from "tailored support and resources" to help scale their solutions.
Spanning five days, Earthshot Week 2024 will gather leading innovators, investors, and philanthropists to "drive forward the restoration and protection of our planet." It starts with the awards ceremony followed by storytelling and star-studded performances.
The Earthshot+ is then observed afterward, which features "a day of thought-provoking conversations aimed at multiplying the impact of Earthshot Prize winners and finalists" for a sustainable future.
"Either we continue as we are and irreparably damage our planet, or we remember our unique power as humans and our continual ability to lead, innovate, and problem-solve. The next ten years present us with one of our greatest tests, a decade of action to repair the Earth,” said Prince William, founder and president of The Earthshot Prize.

Meanwhile, among the 2023 Earthshot Prize winners are the following: Acción Andina was honored for its efforts in restoring Andean forests, while the WildAid Marine Program received recognition for ocean conservation. GRST was lauded for leading electric vehicle battery recycling, and S4S Technologies was celebrated for empowering farmers through solar-powered dryers. Boomitra was acknowledged for its role in progressing regenerative agriculture through a carbon-credit marketplace.
Rare's Coastal 500, a Filipina-led initiative by Rocky Sanchez Tirona, was a finalist in last year's Earthshot Prize held in Singapore.
