Girl, 6, hit, killed by passenger bus in Catbalogan City; mom hurt

TACLOBAN CITY â€“ A six-year-old girl was killed and her mother was injured after they were hit by a passenger bus on Wednesday, September 4, on the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Tinambacan Norte, Calbayog City, Samar.

The bus was traveling from Manila to Tacloban City when it struck the victims Dina, a 25-year-old meat shop keeper, and her daughter, Ina, a Grade 1 student, both residents of Barangat Tinambacan Norte.

Police said the girl was crossing the road when her mother attempted to save her by raising her hand to signal the oncoming bus to stop.

However, the bus failed to brake on time and hit the victims.

The victims sustained injuries and were taken to the Saint Camillus Hospital in Calbayog City.

The child was declared dead on arrival and her mother remains at the hospital.

The driver and the bus are in the custody of the Calbayog City police.
