Topex Robinson, who is coaching in his second year for the Green Archers, expects a tough challenge when the basketball tournament kicks off this coming weekend.

“We’re not the champions anymore, and what we want to focus on is how to be champions again and it was something that we’re prepared for,” said Robinson.

“And it’s something na excited kaming lahat, because it’s going to be an exciting season gaya ng mga nakaraang seasons, we’re really excited to face the season with really a solid front,” he added.

La Salle punctuated Season 86 with a finals victory over the UP Fighting Maroons in three games. The Taft-based squad also beat the NU Bulldogs in the semifinals after finishing its elimination assignment with an 11-3 card.

According to Robinson, they are exerting their best effort to make it two in a row despite the exits of Evan Nelle, Jonnel Policarpio, Francis Escandor, Joaqui Manuel and Mark Nonoy who all completed their collegiates duties.

“Well if you’re going to represent DLSU, there’s always a reason you’re a part of us. We recruit players that we’ll be integral in what we’re building,” he continued.

“So, the fact you make it to our lineup means you have a purpose to serve and to fill in the gaps that we had when we lost our veterans last season.”

La Salle still has a formidable lineup led by reigning MVP Kevin Quiambao and Mike Phillips.

The Green Archers start their campaign against last year’s semis foe NU Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 8, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
