398 OFWs in Lebanon from Negros Occidental decline to return home

BACOLOD CITY – The provincial government of Negros Occidental is monitoring the situation of 398 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Lebanon amid the escalating tension between Hezbollah and Israel.

“The last report I received is that nobody wants to go home,” Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said in a in a media interview on Tuesday, September 3.

Sixty-one OFWs are from this city, according to Karen Dinsay, provincial manager of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), citing records from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

Lacson said the provincial government has set up a help desk at the PESO at the Provincial Capitol building here for the families and relatives of OFWs in Lebanon who want to seek help.

“If there are concerns, they can get in touch with PESO through the help desk,” he added.

The provincial government is offering P5,000 financial assistance to OFWs from Negros Occidental who return home from Lebanon.
