“This is a really good development Hopefully, his family will really get the justice that they deserve,” said Wanky on Monday, September 30.

Barayuga served as chief of the Iloilo City Police Office from 2006 to 2008 and his family remains in Iloilo as he married an Ilongga.

PNP chief Police Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil ordered the reinvestigation after a congressional hearing where former PCSO General Manager and former police officer Royina Garma and former National Police Commission (Napolcom) Commissioner Edilberto Leonardo were tagged as the brains behind Barayuga’s murder.

Wanky defended Barayuga and refuted allegations that Barayuga’s death is linked to his alleged involvement in the illegal drugs trade.

“Sir Wesley was a straight forward officer. We saw how professional he was,” said Wanky, who served under Barayuga as a junior officer and police station commander in Jaro District.  “He didn’t deserve what happened to him. He was a victim of circumstances,” added Wanky.
