Style Weekend: Witness Filipino theater shows, shop local, and discover new crafts

Welcome the first weekend of October with theatrical productions, pottery and candle-making sessions, and flea markets


Ang Pinakamakisig sa mga Nalunod sa Buong Daigdig
When: Ongoing until Oct. 5, 9 to 12, 16 to 19, and Nov. 6 to 8, 13 to 15, and 20 to 23
Where: FEU Center for the Arts Studio, Ground Floor, Engineering Building, FEU Manila, Sampaloc, Manila City

Co-presented by the FEU Center for the Arts and the Alumni Relations Office, the FEU Theater Guild returns to the uncanny coasts of Isla Esteban and restages Ang Pinakamakisig sa mga Nalunod sa Buong Daigdig to close its 90th theater season. Set on water, this mystery-filled play was adapted by Teresa Lorena Jopson from Gabriel García Márquez’s “The Handsomest Drowned Man.” Ticket prices are P200 for the FEU Community, P400 for Guests, and P600 for VIPs.

Six
When: Oct. 4 to 20, 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Where: Theatre At Solaire, Parañaque City

Six tells the extraordinary story of the six wives of King Henry VIII, who step out of the shadow of their infamous husband and reclaim their own narratives. Written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, this modern-pop-inspired musical brings these historical figures to life, portraying them as fierce and influential pop stars in their own right.

‘Girl World’
When: Oct. 4 to 5, 12 noon to 9 p.m.
Where: Bridgetowne, Pasig City (under the ‘Victor’ art installation)

The Solana Market invites everyone to a weekend experience in Pasig. Apart from shopping, its “Girl World” event features cookie decorating sessions, a flower arrangement workshop, live jazz, and a treasure hunt.

Balete
When: Oct. 4 to 6, 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Where: Tanghalang Ignacio Giminez, CCP Complex, Pasay City

In a groundbreaking theater production, largely devised from F. Sionil José’s novel Tree, his autobiography Promdi, and Rody Vera’s Filipino adaptation Balete, the Tanghalang Pilipino Actor’s Company tackles the epic sweep of the elegiac novel through a rich tapestry of movement and visual storytelling.

‘Let’s Groove: A ’70s Flea Market’
When:  Oct. 5 to 6, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: Open Space, YL Holdings Building, Legazpi, Makati City

Go back to the disco era at “Let’s Groove: A ’70s Flea Market.” Explore one-of-a-kind fashion finds, savor delicious bites, pose at the photo booth, and find new inspiration at this event happening in Makati City. As for the dress code, come in your best vintage threads. Entrance is free!

‘Simoy ng Sining: Fragrance Blending and Candle Making’
When: Oct. 5, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Dolores L. Tan Hall, Maybank Performing Arts Theater, BGC Arts Center, Taguig City

Bring out the frag head in you and blend scents while crafting beautiful, personalized candles in Simoy ng Sining: Fragrance Blending and Candle Making with Christelle Joy Rojano of Kakayanin PH.

Beethoven 
When: Oct. 5, 7.30 p.m. 
Where: Aliw Theater, CCP Complex, Pasay City

The Manila Symphony Orchestra continues its journey toward 100 years of musical excellence with a spectacular all-Beethoven program. The concert will open with the Overture to King Stephen, led by renowned Russian conductor Alexander Vikulov. Joining them in this musical ode to Beethoven is distinguished solo pianist Mariel Ilusorio.
