Peñaredondo tapped to head 8th ID

TACLOBAN CITY – Brig. Gen. Perfecto Peñaredondo assumed the position of Army 8th Infantry Division acting commander this week.

He replaced outgoing chief Major Gen. Camilo Ligayo.

Peñaredondo served as the assistant division commander of the 8th ID. He also served 8th ID as division chief of staff and commander of the 803rd Infantry Brigade.

BRIG. Gen. Perfecto Peñaredondo is the acting commander of the Army 8th Infantry Division. He replaced outgoing chief Major Gen. Camilo Ligayo.

He is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Sambisig Class of 1991.

Peñaredondo played a crucial role in transforming the insurgency landscape in Northern Samar, an area previously regarded as a communist hotbed.

His leadership led to significant improvements, including a notable achievement during a fierce gun battle with communist rebels in upland Barangay Imelda, Las Navas, Northern Samar, on November 23, 2022, resulting in six casualties and the recovery of 16 firearms.

Peñaredondo said he is dedicated and commited to maintaining the command's progress in internal security operations and continuing Ligayo's legacy in securing peace and progress in Region 8 or Eastern Visayas.
