In his last Sunday’s, Sept. 29 “BBM VLOG 264” entitled “Ang Galing ng Pinoy! Filipino Excellence in S.T.E.M” posted on Facebook, the Chief Executive lauded the recent wins by Filipino students in international competitions in math and science.

“Proud of our Filipino innovators at the forefront of STEM. With Filipinnovation driving our vision, we're making science and technology the heart of progress in Bagong Pilipinas,” the caption on his Facebook post read.

“We are shaping a future where Filipino ingenuity leads on the global stage,” he added.

The vlog showed snippets of the recent wins by Filipino students, as well as various news clippings that announced their victories.

“Mahalaga ‘yan dahil ang STEM subjects ay pinagbabasehan ngayon ng lahat ng bagong teknolohiya (That’s important because STEM subjects are now the basis of all new technology),” he said in the vlog.

STEM is one of the strands under the Department of Education’s (DepEd) K-12 curriculum, which aims to develop critical thinking, problem solving, and innovation among Filipino students.

With the increasing innovation of new technologies, Marcos stressed the need for Filipinos to become experts in scientific study and mathematics to engage and participate in the world’s “new economy.”

“Sa isang Bagong Pilipinas, patuloy ang pagpapatag ng pundasyon para sa siyensya at teknolohiya (In the New Philippines, let’s continue strengthening the foundation of science and technology),” the President said.

“Patuloy ang inobasyon dahil kaalaman ang ating sandata tungo sa isang maunlad na Bagong Pilipinas (Innovation should continue because knowledge is our weapon toward a progressive New Philippines),” he added.

Marcos express pride in the accomplishments of several Filipino students in the world stage—medalists in the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics in Brazil from the Philippine Science High School, a gold awardee at the International Nuclear Science Olympiad, bronze, silver, and gold medals at the 10th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) +3 Junior Science Odyssey in Cambodia, and two golds at the Singapore International Math Olympiad, among others.
