Death toll in bus-SUV collision in Laguna climbs to 7


MAJAYJAY, Laguna – Seven persons were killed and 78 others were injured in a collision between a passenger bus and a Sports Utility Vehicle on the provincial road in Barangay Bakia here on Sunday afternoon, September 29.

Police said four persons on the bus, including the conductor, died on the spot and three others passed away in a hospital. The injured passengers were taken to hospitals in this province.

Investigation said the bus with license plates ABE-1521 driven by Nelson Geraldizo Bolaños of Mandaluyong City was on its way to Metro Manila from a Mass at the Kamay sa Jesus shrine in Lucban, Quezon when it collided head-on with the SUV driven by Hazel Reyes Deguia of Barangay Malinao, Atimonan, Quezon.

The bus had 87 individuals on board, 85 passengers, including children, and the driver and conductor.

The SUV’s occupants – four children and two adults – were on their way back to Atimonan from a visit to relatives from this town.

Police said the bus driver was unhurt.
