Families affected by 'Enteng' in Bicol get aid


LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – A total of 21,000 families or 83,000 persons affected by tropical storm "Enteng" in the six provinces of Bicol region have received assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Bicol and local government units (LGUs).

DSWD-Bicol said that as of 10 p.m. on Monday, September 2,  P7,189,459.56 worth of humanitarian aid were given to affected residents and stranded passengers in different ports of Bicol.

AKO-Bicol party-list executive director Alfredo Garbin Jr. and Liga ng mga Barangay-Albay president Hisham Ismail distributed relief goods to residents of Barangay 18 in Legazpi City affected by flooding caused by tropical storm ‘Enteng' on September 2.

"Of these, 1,929 families are displaced and residing in 129 open evacuation centers, while 517 families have sought shelter with relatives or are displaced outside evacuation centers," DSWD-Bicol said.

Mary Giselle Mesa, DSWD-Bicol spokesperson, said that these affected families received food packs, non-food items, and cash assistance. "All in na po (All in). Non-food items, food packs, and cash," Mesa said.

Non-food items were composed of sleeping kits, hygiene kits, kitchen kits, and family kits while food packs consisted of six kilos of rice, four tins canned tuna, two tins canned sardines, four tins canned corned beef, five sachets 3-in-1 instant coffee, and five sachets of instant cereal drinks.

On Monday, League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP)-Albay president and Polangui Mayor Adrian Salceda and Albay Rep. Joey Salceda distributed relief goods to affected residents in Libon, Albay.

In Legazpi City, 1,120 families affected by flooding in Barangay 18 were given aid by Ako Bicol party-list executive director Alfredo Garbin Jr. and Liga ng mga Barangay Albay president and Board Member Hisham Ismail.
