At least 12 people died when tropical storm “Enteng” unleashed its fury in most parts of Luzon and the Visayas in the past two days, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

But NDRRMC spokesman Edgar Posadas said the fatalities recorded in Bicol, Rizal and three regions in the Visayas, are all for validation and confirmation although he said most of them are due to drowning.

“Most of them are due to drowning but there were also incidents of trauma like being hit on the head,” said Posadas in an interview with ANC. 

“Enteng” is already on its way out of the country but stormy weather is still monitored especially in most parts of Northern Luzon.

The weather disturbance, however, left a trail of destruction in Bicol and in some parts of Laguna, Rizal and Cavite due to the widespread flooding.

Posadas said several areas in Central and Eastern Visayas were also severely affected by the heavy rains unleashed by “Enteng”.

Citing reports from the ground, Posadas said the initial reports revealed that there were 62,959 families composed of around 240,000 individuals affected by the tropical storm, most of them are in Bicol with 22,220 families, Eastern Visayas with 18,092 families and Metro Manila with almost 10,000 families.

The figures, however, are expected to increase as more reports are expected to come in on Tuesday.
