After defying odds to reclaim the crown and notch their 23rd overall crown in Season 99, all eyes will be on the Red Lions as head coach Yuri Escueta anticipates a strong challenge against nine other schools in the centennial season of the country's oldest collegiate league.

“Ako, as a coach, is expecting the worst. Tingin ko magiging ganun as the game progresses, marami kaming bad experiences. I'm sure may ups and downs kami,” said Escueta in NCAA’s press conference at the MOA Coral Way Lobby Tuesday, Sept. 3.

A grand opening ceremony will usher in the brand-new season at 12 noon, with the Red Lions facing the Lyceum Pirates at 2:30 p.m., and the Mapua Cardinals battling the CSB Blazers at 5 p.m.

San Beda will flaunt new faces with most of its seniors completing their playing years including former captain Peter Alfaro. Star guard Jacob Cortez, meanwhile, transferred to La Salle in UAAP.

With the departure of key players, Yukien Andrada assumed the role as team skipper for the Red Lions.

“Siyempre, as one of the young team captains sa NCCA, malaking pressure din sa akin yan. I'm just doing my best and my coaches are helping me also to lead the team,” said Andrada.
