9 jewelry shop thieves arrested in Quezon


MAUBAN, Quezon – Police arrested nine persons for allegedly robbing a jewelry shop here of more than P600,000 in valuables amid tropical storm “Enteng” on Tuesday, September 3.

The suspects were identified as Rexan, John Rico, Jonathan Paul, Mark John, Tristan, Jacob, Anthony, Rose Mae, and Christian.

The suspects allegedly ransacked the De Ocampo's Jewelry Shop on Rizal St., Barangay Daungan, owned by businessman Menard de Ocampo, 36.

The incident was discovered at around 3 p.m. after saleslady Abegail Camota opened the store.

Camota found out that the roof and ceiling were destroyed. 

Assorted gold and silver jewelry amounting to P600,000 and cash amounting to P2,000 were carted away.

A review of surveillance footage showed the suspects entering the store on Monday, September 2, amid heavy rains from Enteng.

Two suspects entered the shop by forcibly cutting the roof to gain entry.

Through CCTVs, the suspects were tracked to their hideout in Sitio Barbara, Barangay Soledad, this town, which also served as a drug den.

A follow-up operation was conducted which resulted in the arrest of the suspects while in the act of sharing their loot.

Recovered were two kilos of silver and gold pieces of jewelry, a caliber .38 revolver without serial number loaded with two bullets, and two heat-sealed sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated weight of 0.5 grams.

The suspects face robbery, drug, and gun-related cases.

Meanwhile, police nabbed two fugitives from the Bureau of Corrections-Leyte Regional Prison during a manhunt operation in Barangay Santo Domingo, Santa Rosa City, Laguna on Tuesday afternoon.

The inmates were identified as Ryan Fernandez and Rindo Durian.
