3 dead in van-motorcycle collision in Pangasinan

SAN NICOLAS, Pangasinan – Three persons were killed in a collision between a commuter van and motorcycle with sidecar in Barangay Poblacion East here on Monday, September 2.

Police identified victims as motorcycle passengers Angelito Gumtang, Joelo Gumtang, and Rolly Platino, all residents of Umingan, Pangasinan.

Investigation said that the motorcycle suddenly appeared in an intersection and collided with the van driven by Fr. Ernesto Verbo Gonzales Jr., 44, of the Archdiocese of Tuguegarao, with the owner, Apolinario Victor Mateo, as passenger.

Motorcycle driver Leroy Reyes Arriola, 38, of Barangay Poblacion West, Umingan, and his three passengers sustained injuries and were taken to a hospital where Arriola’s passengers were declared dead.

Both vehicles sustained undetermined cost of repair and were taken to the police station here for proper disposition.
