King Gurtiza rose to the occasion in the dying seconds as Emilio Aguinaldo College squeaked past Lyceum, 90-88, in NCAA Season 100 men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Sunday, Sept. 29.

Down by three with a little over a minute to go, Gurtiza rifled a crucial trey and followed it up with two charities off a Vincent Cunanan foul to tow the Generals to their third win in seven games, tying with their victims in the middle standings.
The Pirates had two chances to turn things around, but Renz Villegas’ triple and Cunanan’s buzzer-beating jumper bounced off the rim.
Gurtiza finished with 21 points spiked by five treys, grabbed five rebounds and dished out five assists for EAC, whose victory also snapped their back-to-back defeats against Letran and University of Perpetual Help.
Paolo Bagay also contributed 11 points and three boards in just 13 minutes of action.
Lyceum, for its part, absorbed its second straight defeat despite John Barba having another double-double performance of 19 points 14 rebounds, and Gyle Montano posting 14 points and six boards.
