The Manila City Jail Male Dormitory of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has sponsored the birthday celebration of 284 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).

Manila City Jail Male Dormitory warden Supt. Lino M. Soriano said all the 284 PDLs are celebrating their birthday in the month of September.

"The celebration provided a simple yet meaningful way for the PDLs to feel valued and remembered, even while inside the jail facility," said Soriano.

He noted that the PDLs’ monthly birthday celebration is a best practice of the jail facility, which offers them a chance to reflect, enjoy a shared meal and experience a sense of normalcy.

“For many, it is a reminder that they are still part of a community that cares for their well-being, helping foster a positive outlook despite their current circumstances,’’ Soriano said.

The celebration was made possible through the coordinated efforts of the Welfare and Development Section, TechVoc Skills Inc. and the Food Service Unit of Manila City Jail Male Dormitory.

Earlier, the Manila City Jail Male Dormitory conducted a skills enhancement training on coconut oil making for the PDLs  students enrolled in the NC II Hilot Wellness program.

“This training focused on teaching the PDL how to produce coconut oil, a crucial ingredient used in traditional massage therapy,’’ the Manila City Jail Male Dormitory noted.
