The program was developed through the city's collaboration with CityNet Plus Arts, the largest association of urban stakeholders committed to sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.
The collaboration aims to support Makati teachers in developing materials that will enhance the resilience of students in the city.
Binay emphasized in her speech that ingraining resilience into everyone’s way of life, starting at the elementary school level, is important to ensure that they can consistently handle adversity or challenges effectively.
Present at the ceremony were Mr. Kendra Hinata and Mr. Kazuyoshi Mitsuda from CityNet Plus Arts, along with Schools Division Superintendent Evalou Agustin, Information and Community Relations Department head Romulo Salgado Jr., Education head Leni Fermin, and Liza Ramos, the Research and Planning Division head of DRRM.
On April 18, Binay welcomed officials from CityNet Plus Arts Center for Creative Partnerships, and they discussed the development of disaster preparedness learning tools for Makati's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Academy.
On September 26, 2022, Makati City was chosen as the disaster cluster leader of CityNet and also elected to become the vice president of CityNet for 2023-2026, together with Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
As the city cluster head, Binay stated that Makati City will continue to improve and strengthen its disaster risk reduction and management capabilities and share its knowledge with other local government units (LGUs) in the country.
In addition, the city has also been proclaimed by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) as the first-ever resilience hub in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.
The mayor said that with this proclamation, the city will lead the Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) initiative.
MCR2030 aims to contribute directly to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG11) and other global frameworks by empowering cities to become inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable by 2030.
