Emerging talent Diego Gutierrez has recently disclosed that he poured his raw emotions into a soul-stirring song, a poignant reflection of the end of his enduring seven-year romance.

"Huling Sayaw is the first song I wrote after the breakup," said Diego during an interview in Quezon City recently. "The song is upbeat, but the lyrics are sad."

Diego, 27, mentioned that he had been in a relationship for seven years. He clarified that there was no third party involved. His family knew it although he didn't share anything about his relationship on social media. "I am in a better position now after the breakup."

Asked if his girlfriend knew he wrote a song about their breakup, to which he responded, "Siguro pag maririnig niya, malalaman niya."

The song "Huling Sayaw" will be released at midnight on Oct. 2. He is also excited about his forthcoming gigs in October. The release party for the song will be held at Mansion Makati City on Oct. 4.

Diego said he did not study music, although he took voice lessons. "I had voice lessons, and I wanted to take more voice lessons. I took up integrated marketing in college at the University of Asia and the Pacific."

Some of his musical influences were John Meyer, Sam Mendez, and The 1975. He also plays the guitar and takes piano lessons.

When asked how he moved on from the breakup, he said: "I just pray. Pero kapag nakasampa na ako sa stage, kalma na."

Diego mentioned that his family always reminds him to be confident as he pursues a career in showbiz. "Kapal lang daw talaga ng mukha until you make it."

"Sabi nga ni Mamita (Pilita Corrales), kinakabahan pa rin daw siya when she sings. So it's normal. Just own it. Minsan naiisip ko kung ready na ba ako sa mga performances.

"Then sasabihin niya na, 'You are there for a reason.' You are there to perform, and they know you can do it. That helps a lot," Diego said.

Diego admitted there was pressure in his journey to showbiz. "Medyo may pressure rin kasi napagdaanan na nila yung pinagdadaanan ko. So kahit na successful yung family members ko, gusto ko rin marating yung mga narating nila.

"May expectations din from other people. So meron ding expectations sa sarili ko. I'm working hard to reach my expectations," he said. "Lagi rin nilang sinasabi huwag akong mahihiya."

Diego is the third of four children and the only son of actors Loltlot De Leon and Ramon Christopher.

At the same event, Diego also talked about his sister, Janine Gutierrez, and his rumored boyfriend, Jericho Rosales.

"Ever since, kung saan masaya si Ate Janine and family ko, doon din ako masaya. Nakikita ko naman na talagang masaya siya now," he said.

Diego said he had met Jericho, who he described as a "good guy" and super bait."

"Nakakasama siya minsan ng family. Medyo nagiging close na rin kami. Paran kuya vibes siya."

Diego also shared his birthday wish for his sister Janine.

"Masasabi ko lang lagi kay Ate Janine na we love so much. We are thankful for what she does for our family, and we are proud of her for all the success she's been having recently.

"We are excited for her future work and blessings. We always wish the best for her. We want to see her happy and successful," Diego said.

Diego expressed his aspirations to expand his musical repertoire by dedicating more time to the songwriting process.
