CEU stages festival of creative works

Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things. --- Steve Jobs

Creative work, including visual arts, literature, filmmaking, dance, and music, is a manifestation and demonstration of artistry and originality.

On May 24, the first ever Centro Escolar University (CEU) Festival of Creative Works was held. Through the festival, creative work outputs of faculty members and undergraduate members were showcased in hopes of firing up their creative work potential, providing a formal forum for sharing creative work outputs, and encouraging students and faculty to engage in innovative endeavours.

In CEU, creative works are classified as major, substantial, and minor based on their scope of work. Major creative works are distinguished by having a high degree of complexity and/or sophistication in structure, scope or scale, cultural significance and influence on peers in the field. They introduce novel or highly innovative concepts, methodologies, approaches, repertoire, and interrelationships.

Meanwhile, substantial creative works are those with synthesis or extension of existing concepts, methodologies, approaches, repertoire, and/or artistic or intellectual inter-relationships. It should have a moderate degree of complexity and/or sophistication in structure or scale, cultural significance, and influence on peers in the field.

Multidisciplinary collaborations that combine skills and research, such as group performances and group exhibitions, also fall into this category.

Original musical compositions and films were exhibited in the maiden staging of CEU Festival of Creative Works, with a story as to how the authors developed them.
