Asenso Manileño unveils 'powerhouse lineup' for 2025 polls

The Asenso Manileño, the dominant local political party in Manila, held its convention to formally announce its “powerhouse lineup” for the May 2025 local elections.

The lineup proclamation was held at San Andres Sports Complex on Friday, September 27.

Leading the convention were their party leaders, re-electionists Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan and Vice Mayor John Marvin “Yul Servo” Nieto, their slates for Manila's six seats in the Congress and 36 seats in the Manila City Council.

Party President Mayor Lacuna-Pangan revealed at the event that Manny Lopez would be the party's candidate for Manila First District Congressman.

A former sports executive, Lopez is the son of the late Manila Mayor Mel Lopez and was Manila First District Congressman from 2016 to 2022.

Lopez joins five of the six Manila Representatives in Congress, all allied with Asenso Manileño and the Lacuna-Servo tandem.

Of the six Manila congressmen, five are allied with Asenso Manileño and are House committee chairpersons. They are Rep. Rolando Valeriano (Second District of Manila), chair of the Committee on Metro Manila Development; Rep. Joel Chua (Third District of Manila), chair of the Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability; Rep. Edward Maceda (Fourth District of Manila), chair of the Committee on Revision of Laws; Rep. Irwin Tieng (Fifth District of Manila), chair of the Committee on Banks and Financial Intermediaries; and Rep. Benny Abante (Sixth District of Manila), chair of the Committee on Human Rights.

The majority group in the Manila City Council, composed of 20 councilors representing the city's six districts, is also with the Asenso Manileño.
