Police Brig. Gen. Redrico A. Maranan was named as the new director of the Police Regional Office 3 in another reorganization that affected five other senior officers of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil earlier said that the revamps are aimed at filling up positions that are vacated due to the retirement of some senior officers.
Maranan, a member of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Class 1995, will replace Police Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo, Jr., who will retire on Oct. 1.
Maranan graduated cum laude at the PNPA and was awarded Best in Oral Revalida in Masters in Business Administration at Wesleyan University and his second Master's degree is Public Management Major in Development and Security at Development Academy of the Philippines.
As an alumnus of the PNPA, he was adjudged as Outstanding Alumnus for the year 1998, 2002, and 2011.
He also emerged as number 1 in the Course Directors Training and Public Safety Officers Advance Course, (PSOAC).
Maranan also underwent various trainings that include NBI Agent Investigation Course; Hostage Negotiation Course in Federal Bureau of Investigation in L Counter Terrorism ; Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Explosives (CBRNE) ; and Airport Physical Security Course in Department of Homeland Security in the United States.
Marbil, meanwhile, designated Police Col. Melecio Buslig, Jr. as the new director of the Quezon City Police District.
Police Brig. Gen. Victor Arevalo was named as the new director of the PNP Training Service while Police Brig. Gen. Radel Ramos was appointed as the new head of the Headquarters Support Service.
Police Brig. Gen. Jose Manalad, Jr. was designated as chief of the Center for Police Strategy Management (CPSM) while Police Col. Ma. Sheila Portento as the new acting Dean of Academics of the PNP Academy.
Marbil said there will be another round of reorganization next week as more senior officers are expected to retire on October 1.
“We need to immediately fill up the positions that would be vacated,” said Marbil.
He emphasized the urgency of filling up vacant positions as the PNP has started focusing on election security with the start of the filing of certificate of candidacy next week for the 2025 midterm elections.
