The challenge for Western Visayas is to trailblaze because there is still potential for growth,” said DICT Undersecretary Jocelle Batapa-Sigue at the Regional ICT Summit and Exhibitions (RISE).

“We are ready. We have been ready. But we need to continue to be ready to evolve. The demands of the industry have become complicated,” said Sigue, Undersecretary for ICT Industry Development.

RISE is part of the Western Visayas Innovative Startup Festival hosted by Iloilo City.

Sigue said the seeds for  ICT in Western Visayas were planted in 2009.

She said that Western Visayas should not rest on having two of the six Centers of Excellence – the regional capital of Iloilo City and Bacolod City. Sigue added that Roxas City has been designated as a digital city.

Among those discussed during the event were improving infrastructure, including more reliable electricity and internet connectivity.
