3 hurt as hanging bridge collapses in Nueva Vizcaya

ALFONSO CASTAÑEDA, Nueva Vizcaya – Three persons were injured when a hanging bridge collapsed in Sitio Diogan, Barangay Abuyo, this town, on Thursday morning, September 26.

The local government unit said that 43 students and seven teachers from Abuyo National High School were crossing the bridge on their way to Sitio Diogan from Sitio Melina for their intramurals when it collapsed at about 8:46 a.m.

The three injured – two females and one male – were taken to the hospital for body and chest pain, dizziness, and nausea.

The rest were taken to the Rural Health Unit for checkup but were later sent home after being medically cleared.

The LGU is still consolidating the total number of persons involved in the incident.

Authorities said the bridge which was three to four meters above a river might have collapsed as it was unable to support the weight of the victims.

Videos that went viral online showed the victims landing on the river, creating a huge splash.
