PNP to recall cops assigned to politicians running for 2025 midterm polls

Policemen detailed as security personnel of politicians who will run for the 2025 midterm elections will be recalled, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Thursday, Sept. 26.

PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said policemen who are assigned in areas where their relatives are seeking local election will also be reassigned to other areas, adding that they have already asked all policemen to declare if they have relatives running for next year’s polls.

“The members of the PNP are obligated to declare whether or not they have relatives running for political position as part of our standard operating procedure,” said Fajardo.

She said they are also conducting background check on all their uniformed personnel, including all officers.

“This effort, including the recall of policemen assigned to politicians who will run for next year’s elections, are all part of our goal to isolate the PNP from partisan politics,” said Fajardo.

“Although the PNP is authorized to assign personnel to people under threat, we usually recall that because we don’t want to be accused of favoring anybody,” she added.

Fajardo said PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil has already issued to all policemen against engaging in partisan political activities.

Next week, candidates for senators are expected to file their respective certificate of candidacy.
