Spearheaded by the local government unit (LGU), City Civil Registry Department, and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), the PDL mass wedding was attended by Mayor Ben Abalos and other officials of the city government. BJMP-NCR regional director Jail Chief Supt. Clint Russel Tangeres and other officers of the city jail were also present during the event.
According to Abalos, the program aims to give chance to PDLs to make legalize their union with their partners as well as to streamline the legitimacy processing of their children's or soon-to-be children's birth certificates.
The mass wedding of PDLs is also part of the city jail's "Re-integration, Reformation Program" for inmates who displayed good conduct time allowance.
