'Tatapusin namin yan!': VP Duterte can't 'sabotage' budget passage, says Khonghun

- If Vice President Sara Duterte thinks that she can "sabotage" the timely passage of the P6.352-trillion national budget of 2025, she's sorely mistaken, according to Assistant Majority Leader Zambales 1st district Rep. Jay Khonghun.

If Vice President Sara Duterte thinks that she can "sabotage" the timely passage of the P6.352-trillion national budget of 2025, she's sorely mistaken.
Thus, said Assistant Majority Leader Zambales 1st district Rep. Jay Khonghun1 on Tuesday, Sept. 24, during an impromptu press briefing of the "Young Guns" bloc.
"Nagtatrabaho yung mga miyembro ng Kongreso para ipasa yung budget on time. Kung ang tingin ng ating Vice President ay kaya niyang isabotahe yung pagpasa ng budget ng ating pamahalaan for 2025, hindi po papayagan ng Kongreso yun," Khonghun said.
(The members of Congress are working to pass the budget on time. If our Vice President thinks that she can sabotage the passage of the government's budget for 2025, Congress won't allow that.)
As of this posting, House members have been waiting for nearly two full days for Vice President Duterte to appear in plenary so that the OVP's proposed 2025 budget of P2.037 could be properly defended through her designated budget sponsor, Lanao del Sur 1st district Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong.
That she even no-showed her budget debate schedule on Monday, Sept. 23 was already confirmed by many as an affront to the institution.
Khonghun underscored that the solons' patience wasn't unlimited. "Well, definitely hindi kami mag-aantay ng magpakailanman, kasi kailangan maipasa yung budget by Wednesday. At hindi ito mapipigilan ng opisina ng Vice President."
(Well, definitely we won't wait forever, because we need to pass the budget by Wednesday. The OVP can't stop this.)
The House of Representatives is set to go on a month-long recess after passing House Bill (HB) No.10800--the 2025 budget measure--on third and final reading on Sept. 25.

"Hindi naman po pwede na lagi na it's all about her. Kailangan din niyang isipin yung mga nagta-trabaho sa kanyang departamento," Khonghun said.
(It can't be all about her. She should also think of those who work under her department.)
The Young Guns member also ruled out the possibility that the OVP would end up with a reenacted budget from its current 2024 outlay.
"Yung reenacted budget ng OVP is impossible. Hindi mangyayari po yun dahil hindi po papayagan ng Kongreso," he said.
(A reenacted budget for OVP is impossible. That won't happen, Congress won't allow it.)
