Warm easterly winds prevail as 'habagat' weakens

As the southwest monsoon (habagat) weakens, warm weather will affect most of the country due to warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, known as easterlies, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, Sept. 23.

Based on the 24-hour weather forecast, PAGASA said the easterlies may bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms to Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region.

Similar conditions may affect the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA advised the public to stay vigilant, as severe thunderstorms—often accompanied by heavy rainfall, lightning, thunder, and gusty winds lasting up to two hours—may also trigger flash floods or landslides.

In addition, PAGASA Weather Specialist Aldczar Aurelio said there is currently no low pressure area or tropical cyclone within the country’s area of responsibility as of Monday.
