A screening officer at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA)Terminal 3 discovered around P500,000 worth of cash from a Japan-bound passenger, the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) said on Monday, Sept. 23.

In a statement, the OTS said security screening officer Ronnel Bustamante was on his duty when he spotted what appeared to be a large bundle of cash inside a big bag.

When inspection was done, around P500,000 cash was discovered.

Bustamante immediately informed the Bureau of Customs about the incident, which in turn, resulted in the holding of the passenger bound for Osaka.

OTS Undersecretary Crizaldo O. Nieves commended Bustamante: “SSOs work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the security of travelers. Their dedication, attention to detail, and professionalism are crucial in preventing security threats and keeping airports secure."
