The House quad-committee (quad-comm) will be forced to seek the arrest Mylah Roque in the event she fails to comply with the show-cause order issued against her.
Quad-comm Vice Chairman Antipolo City 2nd district Rep. Romeo Acop wissued this warning to former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque's wife on Monday, Sept. 23 even as he prodded her to appear before the special four-way panel.
“Pwede naman siya pumunta at magsabi na I refuse to answer dahil ma self-incriminate siya…Kung di siya pupunta, isa ‘yan sa pinakamabigat sa rules namin na pwede siyang ma-cite in comtempt, for not respecting our invitation,” Acop said in an interview over TeleRadyo Serbisyo.
(She can attend the hearings here and say I refuse to answer because it could be self-incriminating...If she doesn't attend, that will have serious implications on our rules and she can be cited in comtempt, for not respecting our invitation.)
“If the quad-committee schedules a hearing and she does not show up despite the invitation, we will issue an order to cite her in contempt,” noted the former police brigadier general.
“Kung hindi mo i-honor 'yung subpoena (If you don't honor the subpoena), we will request that an arrest order be issued against her."
The quad-comm's issuance of a show-cause order against Mrs. Roque was the solons' way of giving her a chance to explain why she shouldn't be placed under arrest by the mega panel.
Mrs. Roque didn't attend the previous Quad-Comm hearing last Sept. 19. She instead informed the committee through letter that she was undergoing medical treatment in Singapore.
Harry Roque is a central figure in the quad-comm's probe on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs). He has called the quad-comm a "kangaroo court" and is reportedly in hiding.
Surigao del Norte 2nd District Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, Quad-Comm overall chairman, explained that Mrs. Roque was initially invited to clarify her involvement in signing a lease agreement with Chinese nationals allegedly linked to a POGO complex in Bamban, Tarlac.
Acop also confirmed that the committee is requesting Mrs. Roque’s medical records to better understand her condition.
