Morillo was the first speaker of the Declaration of Vientiane with the theme “Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience for Sustainable Development of ASEAN cities.”
She joined other mayors from ASEAN countries who also shared their experiences and deliberated on joint priorities in fostering collective action for the sustainable development of cities in the region.
Aside from the main theme, the forum which was held last September 17 to 19 also tackled five sub-themes: Sustainable and livable city, green tourism, sustainable economic development, environmentally sustainability, and climate resilience.
The organizers of the forum emphasized that investing in sustainability and building resilience has been a priority in community building efforts that will be included in the ASEAN Connectivity Strategic Plan.
Last August, the city bagged the Top 1 Most Competitive in Resiliency Award given by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) which recognized its ability to withstand and recover from challenges ranging from natural disasters to economic fluctuations.
Morillo said that this city’s commitment to building robust disaster preparedness system, fostering community resilience, and maintaining a strong local economy has been pivotal in securing the No. 1 spot.
