2 dead as motorcycle rams backhoe in Ilocos Sur

ALILEM, Ilocos Sur – Two men died after their motorcycle rammed a backhoe on the Alilem-Bakun Road in Sitio Macdaar, Barangay Alilem Daya, this town on Friday, September 20.

Police identified the victims as Gabriel O. Pias, 18, motorcycle driver, and back rider, Banz C. Balang, 23, residents of Barangay Amilongan, Alilem.

Investigation said Pias lost control of the fast-moving motorcycle and crashed into the backhoe parked on a road under construction.

The victims sustained serious injuries and declared dead in a hospital.

Police said the victims were not wearing helmets.

Meanwhile, a couple died when their tricycle collided with a closed van on the national highway in Barangay San Antonio, San Mateo, Isabela on Friday evening.

Police identified the victims as Diosdado Gamiao and his wife, Rosan, residents of Barangay Tandul, Cabatuan, Isabela.

Police said the closed van driven by Samuel Bejuco, 32, of Negros Oriental, allegedly collided with the tricycle after it encroached the tricycle’s lane to evade an object.

The victims sustained injuries and declared dead in a hospital.

Bejuco is under police custody. The victims’ family and Bejuco have initially agreed that he would assist in the victims’ wake.
