Vice President Sara Duterte met lawyer Leni Robredo, her predecessor, in her hometown Naga City on Friday, Sept. 20 at a time that various political parties started announcing their bets for the upcoming elections.
A statement from Robredo herself confirmed that she talked to Duterte at her house for about an hour.
"While she was in Naga City for the Peñafrancia Festival, VP Sara Duterte took the opportunity to visit me at my home," Robredo's statement that was relayed to the media through her former spokesman, Barry Gutierrez, said.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) said Duterte "neither looked desperate nor distressed" when she visited "several prominent Bicol personalities."
During her visit to Naga in Camarines Sur upon an invitation from a friend for her first-ever Peñafrancia, she also heard mass with ordinary Bicolanos.
It was the same friend who "arranged a casual meeting with former Vice President Leni Robredo," OVP's statement read.
Duterte's visit to her predecessor came at a time when she believed there were already ongoing efforts from the House lawmakers to impeach her.
It also came after confirming to reporters that she was not really friends with President Marcos, Robredo's rival during the 2022 presidential polls.
But Robredo clarified that her conversations with Duterte were "personal and not political."
