Agricultural sector sees surge in job opportunities amid growing demand – DOLE

The country’s agricultural sector is experiencing a significant increase in job opportunities, with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reporting 2,000 vacancies for farm workers.

The DOLE said the surge highlights the agriculture's vital role in enhancing food security and stabilizing the economy, particularly amid challenges such as climate change and rising food prices.

Climate change has intensified obstacles in agricultural production, leading to unpredictable crop yields and heightened consumer costs.

At the same time, soaring prices for essential food items underscore the urgent need for a robust agricultural workforce to maintain a consistent food supply.

Data from DOLE’s Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) for the week of Sept. 6 to 12 indicated that the job market remains strong across various sectors.

In addition to agriculture, there are 1,534 vacancies for call center agents, reflecting sustained demand for customer service roles in an increasingly digital environment, the DOLE said.

The manufacturing sector is also making significant contributions to job growth, with 1,050 openings for production workers and 1,027 for machine operators — positions that are deemed crucial for the country’s economic recovery.

Furthermore, the government is actively seeking 1,000 laborers for various public infrastructure projects. Such initiatives aim not only to generate employment but also to foster community development nationwide, the DOLE said.

Job seekers are encouraged to explore available opportunities through the PESO Employment Information System (PEIS) and the PhilJobNet job-matching portal.
