11 injured in Ilocos Sur road mishap

NARVACAN, Ilocos Sur â€“ Eleven persons were injured when the passenger jeepney they were riding in overturned while ascending the zigzag portion of the national highway in Sitio Kakaldingan, Barangay Lungog, this town, on Thursday afternoon, September 19.

Police said the vehicle driven by Edson Javier, 42, of Barangay Pantoc, San Quintin, Abra, was enroute to Narvacan when its brake allegedly malfunctioned.

Javier rammed the vehicle into a concrete barrier on the the road to avoid falling into the ravine, police added.

He and his passengers sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man died in a motorcycle accident in Barangay Bacar, Magsingal, this province, on Thursday.

Police identified the victim as Patrick Jones D. Urayanza.

Investigation said the victim accidentally lost control of his motorcycle while driving on a curve portion of the road and rammed the rear of a parked hand tractor.

Urayanza was thrown into a concrete fence and sustained serious head and body injuries. He was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead.

Police said that Urayanza was under the influence of liquor when the accident happened.
