Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr., on Monday, September 2, asked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to address the imminent hazards brought by Tropical Storm “Enteng” (international name “Yagi”).
Revilla, who chairs the Senate Committee on Public Works, tasked the DPWH to immediately dispatch crews to clear debris and garbage in roadways and drainage inlets.
“Dahil sa malakas na hangin, nagkalat ang mga debris tulad ng mga sanga, dahon, at basura. Yan ang siguradong mga babara sa drainage kaya yan dapat ang kailangan linisin agad (Due to strong winds, several debris like branches, leaves, and garbage have scattered. These can clog drainages and should be taken care of immediately)," he explained.
The lawmaker stressed the need to keep water outlets clear, "para hindi maipon ang tubig at mabilis na humupa ang tubig sa mga lugar na prone sa baha (so that flood waters don't rise and clear up easily in flood-prone areas)."
The solon also asked the DPWH to check tarpaulin billboards which may pose hazards due to strong winds.
"Dapat ibinababa na muna yang mga naglalakihang tarpaulin pag ganyang malakas ang hangin (Those huge tarpaulins should be taken down for the meantime given the strong winds)," Revilla explained.
"Napakalaking pinsala ang maaaring idulot niyan pag nilipad yan ng hangin (These can cause a lot of damage if they get blown away)," he added.
Revilla has consistently reminded concerned government agencies to proactively prepare to mitigate the impacts of different natural disasters such as typhoons.
