Swimmer Ernie Gawilan inched closer to a podium finish after advancing to the final round of the men’s 400m Freestyle-S7 event of the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games at Paris La Defense Arena Monday, Sept. 2.

Gawilan topped Heat 2 of his event after clocking 5:00.13 to secure his spot in the finals.
He is the third fastest swimmer going into the medal round behind USA’s Evan Austin (4:56.54) and Neutral Paralympiam Aleksei Ganiuk (4:56.68).
Italy’s Federico Bicelli (5:06.51) and China’s Xianquan Huang landed in fourth and fifth places, respectively.
Ukraine’s Andrii Trusov (5:16.03) and Yurri Shenhur (5:19.46) and Argentina’s Inaki Basiloff (5:17.33) also barged into the medal round.
The final round is set 11 p.m. at the same venue.
On his first try in the men’s 200m IM-SM7, Gawilan finished last in the heats where he registered 2 minutes and 56.39 seconds.
