Negros Occidental logs 184% increase in dengue cases


BACOLOD CITY – The Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office has reported a 183.62 percent increase in dengue cases in the first seven months of the year.

A total of 2,822 cases, with six fatalities, were logged from January to August 24, 1,827 more than the 995 during the same period last year. 

Hinoba-an town has the highest number of cases with 314, followed by Sipalay City with 222, Bago City, 207; Talisay City, 182; Kabankalan and Sagay cities with 173 each, Silay City, 163; Cadiz City, 162; San Carlos City, 161, and Cauayan, 141.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Girlie Pinongan said they are closely monitoring cases, particularly in these 10 areas.

Pinongan said that there are other cases that were reported late, thus, she met health officers in each locality to find out the situation on the ground.

The PHO recorded fewer admission of dengue patients in hospitals compared to the previous weeks. Pinongan added that health workers are now focused on clean-up drive and monitoring of cases. 

Pinongan also said that the Dengue Task Force remains active in all cities and municipalities to immediately cater to dengue-related concerns.
