Hundreds of policemen were deployed in various areas in Metro Manila to secure vital installations and assist in search, rescue and other disaster response amid heavy rains brought by tropical storm “Enteng”.
Police Maj. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez, Jr., director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said a total of 434 policemen were sent to various areas in Metro Manila to assist the local government units in disaster response.
“The number includes 20 officers assigned to evacuation centers, where they are providing assistance to displaced individuals and families,” said Nartatez.
“Additionally, 261 of our officers are securing vital installations to maintain order and protect critical infrastructure. Our traffic management personnel, totaling 173, are also actively working to ensure that roads remain clear and safe, despite the adverse weather conditions,” he added.
As of Monday morning, the NCRPO monitoring revealed 233 individuals from 75 families are currently taking shelter in various evacuation centers in Metro Manila.
Amid threat of flooding especially in low-lying areas, Nartatez said he also ordered the deployment of more policemen trained in search, rescue and retrieval units.
“Our search, rescue, and retrieval units, comprising 597 highly trained personnel, are on high alert and ready to respond to any emergencies, including search and rescue operations,” said Nartatez.
Anticipating that the number of evacuees would swell, Nartatez said they have also started preparing to launch relief operations that will prioritize assistance to both our uniformed personnel and civilians in need of immediate aid.
