The National Electrification Administration (NEA) said on Monday, Sept. 2, that four electric cooperatives (ECs) are experiencing partial power interruptions due to the intensified Tropical Cyclone “Enteng,” which continues to bring strong rainfall to seven regions in Luzon and Visayas.
This includes the Quezon I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (QUEZELCO I), First Laguna Electric Cooperative (FLECO), Camarines Norte Electric (CANORECO), and Northern Samar Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NORSAMELCO).
According to NEA’s report, the number of consumer connections up for ongoing restoration has totaled 202,235.
It also stated that ECs must conduct damage assessment and line clearing of affected distribution lines and facilities, restore electric service areas that were temporarily shut off for safety reasons, and submit any damage and power situation reports to the NEA’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (DRRMD).
NEA also said that electric coops must take contingency measures to minimize the impact of potential threats to consumers’ electric services and activate the emergency response organization (ERO) in case of emergencies.
Despite the heavy storm affecting 512 municipalities, NEA said that 34 ECs continue to operate normally, and 467 of those municipalities remain unaffected in terms of power.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 in nine areas in Luzon.
PAGASA also forecasted the potential intensification of the storm by Wednesday onwards.
