P4.1-M marijuana torched in Ilocos Sur


CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – Police burned 10,300 fully grown marijuana plants and 51,600 marijuana seedlings valued at P4.1 million in an eradication operation in Barangay Licungan, Sugpon, Ilocos Sur on Wednesday, September 18.

AUTHORITIES torched marijuana valued at P4.1 million in Sugpon, Ilocos Sur on September 18. 

Police Regional Office-1 Director Police Brig. Gen. Lou F. Evangelista said lawmen discovered 1,200 fully grown marijuana plants worth P240,000 planted on a lot with a total estimated land area of 300-square meters; 9,100 fully grown marijuana plants valued at P1.8 million in a 1,300-square meter lot; 1,600 marijuana seedlings worth P64,000 in a 400-square meter lot, and 50,000 marijuana seedlings valued at P2 million in a 5,000-square meter lot.

Evangelista commended lawmen for a successful operation under “Coplan Weedtracker.”

“This operation is a testament to the commitment of the PRO-1 to address the drug problem in the Ilocos region. Moreover, the police force will continue to work closely with other government agencies and community stakeholders to prevent the cultivation and distribution of illegal drugs,” he said.

Meanwhile, police from Kalinga and Benguet also uprooted fully grown marijuana plants worth P2 million in eradication operations on Wednesday.

In Kalinga, 5,500 fully grown marijuana plants valued at P1.1 million were discovered in Barangay Dananao, Tinglayan, Kalinga.

In Benguet, 2,000 fully grown marijuana plants worth P400,000 were found in Barangay Tacadang, Kibungan, and 2,700 fully grown marijuana plants valued at P540,000 were discovered in Barangay Kayapa, Bakun.

Police said these were incinerated onsite. Samples were collected for submission to the Police Regional Office-Cordillera Regional Forensics Unit.

Authorities in the Cordillera region are actively looking for other marijuana plantation sites and apprehend cultivators.
