Vice President Sara Duterte said that President Marcos--her own "UniTeam" running mate during the elections less than three years ago--was never her friend.

She made this revelation Wednesday, Sept. 18 in a chance interview following a surprise appearance at the House of Representatives.

“Hindi naman kasi kami talaga nagkausap n’yan, hindi kami magkaibigan unang-una. Nagkakilala lang kami dahil mag-running mate kami," Vice President Duterte told House reporters.

(We didn't really talk, first of all, we weren't friends. We just knew each other when we became running mates.)

"Bago pa man kami naging running mate, hindi na kami nag-uusap. Nagkausap lang kami during campaign at saka sa trabaho noon,” stressed the lady official.

(Before we were running mates, we did not talk. We just spoke during the campaign and during work back then.)

“Ang kaibigan ko talaga si Senator Imee Marcos, kilala niya ako since 2012,” Vice President Duterte said, referring to the presidential sister.

(My real friend is Senator Imee Marcos, who has known me since 2012.)

According to Vice President Duterte, she last spoke with the Chief Executive last June when she went to Malacañang to tender her resignation as Department of Education (DepEd) secretary.

She officially left her Cabinet post last July 19. Since then, she has been critical of the Marcos administration.

Then-Davao City mayor Duterte endearingly referred to Marcos as "Apo BBM" during the 2022 campaign period.

Vice President Duterte attended on Wednesday morning the inquiry of the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability on the fund usage of the Office of the Vice President (OVP).

However, she refused to take an oath and left the hearing early.
