Spy cam captures fatal shooting of woman in Cebu City

CEBU CITY – A woman was fatally shot at close range in an alley in Barangay Guadalupe here on Tuesday night, September 17.

The killing of Baby Lyn Baclayon Gabutan, legal age, was captured by a security camera.

In the video, the victim was using her cellphone when two men arrived. One of them went in front of the woman as if to check the victim’s identity.

The other man standing behind the woman then drew a .45 caliber pistol and shot the victim in the head.

Two children who were playing computers about a meter from the place where the woman was shot ran off after hearing the gunshot.

The two assailants calmly walked away after the crime.

With the help of the video footage, police were able to identify and arrest the assailants.

The suspects were identified as Jay Parba Canta, 27, and a certain Ace, 28. They were arrested around 5 a.m. in Barangay Tisa here.

Police said the jackets and the caps that the suspects wore during the crime were recovered.

However, the .45 caliber pistol that was used in the crime was not recovered, police said.

Police Major Miles Damoslog, chief of the Guadalupe Police Station, said one of the angles being looked into as a possible motive of the crime is illegal drugs.

“The investigation is ongoing but initially, it looks like the killing is drug-related. The suspects are not fully cooperative,” said Damoslog.

The suspects have admitted their roles in the crime but they refused to identify the people who ordered them to kill the woman, police said.
