The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has announced that a spectacular astronomical event, a “perigee full moon,” commonly known as a “supermoon,” will illuminate the skies on Wednesday evening, Sept. 18.
PAGASA said this phenomenon occurs when the Moon reaches its closest point to Earth, known as perigee, while simultaneously in its full moon phase.
It explained that the supermoon will appear approximately 7 percent larger and 15 percent brighter than a typical full moon, offering a stunning sight for skywatchers, if weather permits.
PAGASA said observers can expect the supermoon to rise above the horizon at 6:08 p.m. on Wednesday and set at 5:36 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19.
