Who says that the House quad-committee (quad-comm) hearings aren't really in aid of legislation?

Batangas 2nd district Rep. Gerville "Jinky Bitrics" Luistro, arguably the "breakout star" of the high-profile hearings in the House of Representatives, has identified at least four laws that, according to her, should be revisited by Congress based on what solons have uncovered in the quad-comm.

These laws are Republic Act (RA) No.3019, or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act; RA No.6713, or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees; RA No.9160, or the Anti-Money Laundering Act; and RA No.11232, or the Revised Corporation Code.

The lawyer-solon said that the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability (CPRA) for lawyers, which emanated from the Supreme Court (SC), also warrants a review.

Surigao del Norte 2nd district Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, the lead chairman of the quad-comm, took note of Luistro's suggestion to look into the laws for the purpose of improving them during the panel's Sept. 12 hearing.

The special four-way panel has been investigating the alleged interconnected issues of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), illegal drugs, money-laundering, and EJKs during the previous Duterte administration.

Luistro, a member of the "Young Guns" bloc in the House, has taken the lead in grilling controversial resource persons who have been summoned to the quad-comm hearings.

These include Cassandra Ong, Royina Garma, Alberto Rodulfo "AR" dela Serna, and lawyer Harry Roque.

She notably stood her ground in her interpellation of the verbose Roque--himself a former congressman and spokesperson of ex-president Rodrigo Duterte--on the latter’s alleged involvement with POGOs.

Critics of the quad-comm have slammed the proceedings as having nothing to do with the solons' legislative task, but Luistro's suggestion to the joint panel shows otherwise.
