1,000 families evacuate in Albay, Camarines Sur

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – One-thousand seventeen families or 4,397 individuals in the provinces of Albay and Camarines Sur were evacuated due to heavy rains from tropical cyclone "Gener" and the enhanced southwest monsoon or “habagat.”

Gremil Naz, spokesperson of the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD)-Bicol, said these families were taken to safer areas.

As of 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 30,110 families or 133,419 individuals in 116 barangays in the Bicol region were affected by the weather disturbance, Naz said.

"One house was reported to be totally damaged in San Fernando, Camarines Sur. Said report is still for validation by DSWD Field Office 5," Naz said.

He added that 85 flooding incidents were reported in Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Sorsogon.

"Thirty-six areas or barangays are still reported as flooded, six are receding, while 43 have subsided," he said.

Naz said that 15 roads and bridges were affected, 12 of which are impassable to all types of vehicles.

In Jovellar, Albay, the main road in front of the town's catholic cemetery and spillway in Barangay Aurora were damaged by flood on Tuesday morning.

Classes were suspended in all levels in some municipalities and cities of Albay due to heavy rains.
